While growing up in the 1950s in Newfoundland, Canada, Sandy McBurney Thomas explored "caves," ice skated for miles from one town to the next, and had exuberant fun sledding on a bonnet! What's a bonnet? Sandy will tell you.

Remember having a pen pal? Sandy chats with North Dakota's The Pfeiffer Sisters about her pen pal, who, in turn, became more than a new friend. In some circumstances, writing to a pen pal in the 1950s might be compared to today's online dating.
